AfD Facing Eviction Lawsuit Over Controversial Election Party

The AfD party is facing a lawsuit to evict its headquarters in Berlin-Reinickendorf after a controversial election celebration. The conflict, now in court, started when the party ignored a landlord’s eviction notice and held a large, unapproved party.

In February, following the 2022 Bundestag election, the AfD hosted a wild celebration. They projected their logo onto the building’s façade, set up tents in the courtyard, and attracted a large crowd. Other tenants were disturbed by the noise and chaos, and police had to intervene.

The Party’s Disregard for Building Rules

The landlord had warned the AfD multiple times to vacate the premises at Eichhorster Weg 80. Despite these requests, the party remained in the building. The landlord accused the AfD of violating the building’s rules and causing security issues. Tensions had already been high due to earlier attempts by the AfD to fly political flags on the property. The landlord had banned this, and the light projection at the party only worsened the situation.

Serious Accusations from the Landlord

In the eviction notice, the landlord listed several serious accusations. The AfD was said to have ignored the lease terms and endangered other tenants. The landlord also claimed the party created an unsafe environment in the building. Despite these charges, the AfD has not fully responded to the landlord’s claims. They argue that political events, like the election party, were expected for their office space.

AfD’s Stubborn Resistance

The AfD has been renting the 2,400-square-meter office since 2022 for €43,000 per month. Despite being told to leave by the end of March, the party refused to comply. They argue that hosting political events was in line with the lease’s intended use. However, the landlord saw the party’s actions as a blatant disregard for the rules.

Now, the case is before the Berlin II Regional Court. The outcome will decide whether the AfD must leave its Berlin headquarters. As the legal process unfolds, both sides await a decision that could impact the party’s operations in the capital.
